Equation of Life
Maximize this and you are probably doing it right.
Life = Σ Happiness(t)
t=now to t=end of life
where Happiness(t) is how happy you are at a given time t.
Is there a market for your startup-to-be?
I am one of those people that likes to think up an idea, believe it’s awesome and jump right into building it. That’s allrite if you build for fun, but if you want a serious startup, I’ve learnt that it’s important to validate the idea first. Basically, figure out if what you are building is really useful, if there’s a market for it and if people are willing to pay for your solution. After doing a simple common sense validation in your head, you have to reach out to check if others feel the same way.
Here’s how you can go about it (in no particular order):
Friend Central for Windows Phone is now available!
Facebooking is now a Game!
We just launched Friend Central app for the Windows Phone! With Friend Central, you learn about your friends and get your social updates as you play fun games! If you’ve a Windows Phone, check it out!
Update: We hit 120 230 downloads in the first 2 3 days! I’m not sure if this is a great number for a WP game, but we sure are happy! :)
Occupy Wall Street?
Capitalism, in my opinion, is the human version of natural selection - the survival of the fittest. Ideally, ‘fitness’ in capitalism should be measured by one’s positive impact on the world. People that take the human species forward, by making lives better, should be the ones ‘selected’ to receive a bigger share of resources and hence, benefit a better chance of ‘survival’. For instance, someone who discovers a cure to a dangerous disease, creates a technology that helps people be more productive or figures out a way to increase crop yield, should be rewarded with more money and fame than the rest. For the most part I’m okay with this idea and consider it fair. I think most people are with me on this.
Powerful stuff. That’s Chaplin, not Hitler
Genius. I’m feeling the man love.
well, that sums it up. Or does it.
Do you have a winning business idea?
So you’ve a business idea that you think might click. But before you take the big plunge, you’re uncertain and faced with all these questions - much like pre-wedding jitters. Is this really the one? Is it worth my time, effort and investment? Should I wait for a better one? Fair enough. An idea (or a marriage for that matter) can turn into a life-long commitment, so it’s good to tread carefully and take some time to think it through. Here’s an easy template to help you assess your idea.
GeekAlert: Kinecting 2 - Position and Gesture recognition
My previous post should help you setup everything you need for developing with the Kinect SDK. A quick glance of the 2 examples should give you a good idea of how it works. As there aren’t many examples of position and gesture recognition yet, I’m including a few code snippets in this post.
GeekAlert: Kinecting 1
Me and my friend, Sachin, have recently started hacking around with the Kinect SDK. We’re trying to get a demo done for a TechFest at Microsoft - an application that’ll let you control your database with gestures (geeky, I know). 2 more more weeks to go! It’s been super fun so far. (Update: This is what we made).
Here’s what how you can get started with Kinect development.
